The other most important element of the growth formula, or where the magic actually happens

Magic happens when you dare to do something new.
Magic happens when you step outside of your well-known routine.

Above all, magic happens when you are out of your comfort zone. They say. And they say that a lot.
If during your whole life you spent even just a couple of weeks while surfing on the net, you know this quote for sure and you read already a ton of different versions of it.

[Ready? Here you have a very unique map...
of where the magic happens.
How many times have you seen this pic already?]

What a compelling and inviting and cool quote, right?
How motivating and challenging and fun...
And yet... and yet there is more to pay attention to, in the process.

The waves splash against my face, carrying a message: Welcome, you belong here.
Doug Cooper, Outside In (2013)

Don't get me wrong here: as someone that embraces change as the main component of her life, that made body modification her mantra, that lives happily abroad while switching languages and habits many times a day and that goes with the flow of changing jobs, hobbies, looks, I am all in for chasing the magic and defining a more personal and fulfilling journey instead of trying of keeping up with the Joneses.

It is true that embracing something new will make you grow, even if you are not always going to get what you want. (or what you thought that you wanted... but this is another story, for another post)
It is true that stepping outside your comfort zone will make it easier for you to experience something you would not have experienced otherwise.
It is also true that if you are ready to go, you should go for it. And you should go for it even if you don't feel that ready, after all. Because one never ever feels that ready.

And yet.
And yet, while talking about magic and comfort zone and risk and change, most people forget to tell you about the other most important element of the growth formula: you don't have to spend your precious time only at home or where you feel at home, but you should spend your precious time where you feel welcome.

[Do you feel welcome?
Do you feel that you can be yourself and fail and still be welcome?]

You can be outside of your comfort zone and feel welcome anyway, even if you don't belong... yet. And while feeling welcome, you are free to try, to experience, to learn, to ask questions, to make mistakes, to understand, to change, to fail, to improve. You are free to grow, if you want to and if you are in for it.

But be sure that there is a chance for you to feel welcome in the process.
Life is too short for playing the outcast all the time.
If this is not your cup of tea, of course. In that case, go for it. And good luck.
