Coaching, reloaded - Coaching question of the day #232. - Your reality check about what's mainstream

Some of us live by the idea that millions of people can't be wrong about something and therefore when an idea is popular, it must be good as well.
Others think that just because something is "common" it doesn't mean that it's normal or the best option available. And some of us also support something just because it's not mainstream at all and they like to be "against", no matter what.

So many options are available...

[Our thoughts on mainstream are an effective mirror
for our thoughts on our place in society]

We can embrace the mainstream, we can swim against the current, we can find ourselves everywhere in-between, or maybe we can agree with the majority on some topics and yet be part of a minority regarding something else.

All shades of grey on this scale are good, and this is, in the end, what diversity and variety of opinions are about.

At the same time, knowing where we are, for what we stand, and how we consider our ideas in comparison to what is considered mainstream at a specific time in history is a good tool for a reality check, once in a while, and a good vaccine against tunnel vision.

Self-awareness is a muscle, and having a look at what is mainstream for us and what is for others is an excellent way to train it.

Coaching question of the day:
"What are your thoughts on something being mainstream?"
