Most of us like to think that we are incredibly open-minded, true citizens of the world, pirates ready to discover, experiment, and try out whatever we may feel like.
And yet, more often than not, we are not that open, after all.
We aim to learn something new, to change perspective, to grow, and at the same time, way too often, we tend to forget the discomfort, the fatigue, and the hard work that are necessary to step up the pace and go further.
[Open as in "I am truly open to change"
instead of "I am open to change but everything should stay the same]
instead of "I am open to change but everything should stay the same]
When faced with something that could indeed disrupt our version of "normal" and "familiar", we often get defensive and we stop listening.
Or we try to demonstrate that everything is just as fine as it is, even if we were the first ones looking for a change.
It doesn't have to be this way.
Openness is teachable, and it can be learned.
A first step could be exploring all the little ways we are already open to something new, and take it from there, finding tiny possibilities to go just one step further.
Coaching question of the day:
