If you are not that good at doing small-talk, chances are that you, way too often, have used the question "Where are you from?" to your interlocutor, while thinking to be able to show your attention, curiosity, and empathy thanks to the question.
Chances are, you didn't.
A way more powerful question, both for your interlocutor and for yourself, is "Where are you going?".
It says so much more about you and about the person you are trying to get to know.
[The small-talk question you should ask,
if you are truly interested in the person in front of you...
"Where are you going, where do you want to go?"]
Where are you headed, in the long run?
What are your hopes, your dreams, your projects?
What do you want to achieve, to experience, to see, to learn?
Which kind of person do you want to be and to become?
