Some people like to listen to happy music when they are sad because they are sad and need something to cheer them up.
Others like to listen to sad music when they are sad because they are sad and need to intensify the feeling and dive into it.
Both options can make sense to someone, and any other possible combination may be relevant as well, under some circumstances.
Paying attention to the kind of music we listen to and to which emotions and states of mind the music is related, for us, can be quite revealing.
