Coaching, reloaded - Coaching question of the day #350. - Two types of motivation

Two types of things can motivate us: the ones we want to move away from and the ones we want to move towards to.
Consciously or unconsciously, we spend our lives either trying to avoid something or to achieve something.

On one side, we are motivated by our fears.
On the other side, we are motivated by our desires.

Of course, it is never that black and white: We could also distinguish the internal motivators from the external motivators, our motivation triggers may change over time, or we could be motivated by our fears in one area of our lives and by our desires in another.

[Being motivated by fear or by desire
are two different things
and sometimes it's not so easy to tell them apart...]

All true, but not that relevant at first.
The most important part, for a start? We should be aware of the two main types of motivation and, even more, of what is motivating us.
There is no long-lasting change without this kind of self-awareness. (and I hope you noticed what I did just here, just now)

Coaching question of the day:
"What is motivating you right now?"
