Coaching, reloaded - Coaching question of the day #180. - The habit of speaking up

Even if we don't always like to admit it, we usually know when it would be the right moment to speak up for ourselves, our ideas, our boundaries.
And yet, sometimes, we just don't do it even if it would be the right thing to do.

We don't want to be seen as rude.
We don't want to offend others.
We don't want any drama.
We don't want to stand out.

[The situation feels icky or somehow loathsome?
It's time to speak up, ladies and gents]

We don't want so many things, and yet it looks like we would not know what we do want.

In those circumstances, we are so afraid of the pain or the embarrassment that could afflict others that we forget or don't value enough the pain or embarrassment that could afflict us.

Exactly in those moments, speaking up is necessary and waiting for it to become less uncomfortable rarely works because speaking up is seldom easy.
Even if speaking up the first time is almost impossible, it is possible to build a habit of speaking up regularly. It takes time, and it means embracing what is uncomfortable.

We usually know when it would be the right moment to speak up. Let's build a habit from there.

Coaching question of the day:
"When should you speak up?"
