The beauty of working with a scale while thinking about where we are in comparison with where we want to be or to go is that it allows us to perceive, embrace, and notice shades and hints instead of being too dogmatic.
Instead of thinking in terms of "all or nothing", "black or white", "right or wrong", a scale helps us train our perception, our ability to be mindful, and last but not least our gratitude muscles.
how far away are you from where you would like to be?]
Most of us tend to be nicer to others than to ourselves, even more so if we are under pressure, or in a difficult situation, or we just made a mistake.
Therefore, quantifying how nice we are to ourselves can be not only unusual, but also daunting, and even more necessary when it feels so difficult.
Asking ourselves where we would put us on a niceness scale, it doesn't matter whether we do it daily, weekly, or just every time that we find ourselves being dismissive and too harsh toward us, is a good exercise for developing more self-awareness and more compassion.
On top of it, it can be a good start for reflecting on how being just one point further on the scale would look like, and what we could do for it.
Goodbye, all or nothing.
Welcome, one point further.
