More often than not, friction gets a bad reputation, as if it would be per se something dangerous and destructive, to be avoided altogether.
And yet, without some kind of friction, there is no change, there is no growth, there is just business as usual, incredibly peaceful and well-known... and stagnating.
As it is with critique and with many other things in life, even with the not so pleasant ones, it is a matter of "how" and not so much a matter of "what": Friction can be a huge motivator for developing true grit, a needed ingredient for building up resilience, a welcoming way to see things through different eyes, even if it could hurt at first.
This is why it is crucial, while creating or dealing with friction, to keep in mind what for friction could be precious and what for it would be just deleterious.
We don't have to accept every kind of critique, but listening to it and deciding for ourselves would still be valuable.
In the same way, it is not about creating friction for the sake of creating it, but about creating friction with a positive end in mind. Which one, it is up to each of us.
