Coaching, reloaded - Coaching question of the day #182. - Your biggest fan

"I am your biggest fan", they say. And we melt.
Quite understandably so, if you ask me.

Being a fan has not only to do with admiration, but also with trust, hope, support, and empathy.
Having a true fan is like having a good friend: the one that is there not only for the joyful moments but also for the dreadful ones, the one that is still there when things get scary and everyone else left already.

[Repeat after me: "Appreciating a fan
is not about needing external validation"...]

Knowing that someone believes in us has the same effect as one of those magic potions that in the comics help the hero to become invincible.

It doesn't matter if we are talking about someone's parents, childhood friends, smart colleagues, a life partner, total strangers, or their own kids. It may also be that we are our own fan and we know that, no matter what, things will take a turn for the better, eventually.

Having a true fan has little to do with looking for external validation and a lot to do with feeling human, feeling connected, feeling seen, and understood. It is all about feeling accepted in the bad days as well.
Because we all have bad days. And we all need to belong.

The next time you want to make someone happy, just tell them that you believe in them, and mean it.

Looking for a new, cool habit?
In the mirror, as a daily ritual, maybe short before brushing your teeth, look at yourself in the mirror and smile, saying out loud that you believe in yourself and are your biggest fan.
Good things will follow.
